Central & Southern Thailand
The everyday curry
The story behind it
Where Gaeng Som comes from
Gaeng Som is the opposite of what is considered Thai curry in the West: no coconut milk, no oil, no creaminess. A clear, spicy, and sour broth in which fish and vegetables are poached.
It is an everyday dish — cooked with whatever is on hand, and slightly different in almost every region.
- Typical of
- Central & Southern Thailand
- Without
- coconut milk
- Classically with
- fish & vegetables
